When I was about 4 years old a family friend gave me a bunch of old keys. Over the years I collected various keys and key chains. I was a weird kid.
The keys that started it all. There are Toyota, Volvo, and old GM and Ford keys on here among random house keys.
Some of my favorite key chains:
.50 caliber bullet I received as a gift from a friend.
A brass diving helmet I got from Mystic Seaport as a kid.
The Manticore. I have no idea where this came from and I don't even remember owning it.
And GRIMMMMMMMMY! I think my Aunt got me this.
I haven't really added to this in the past 10-15 years. Mostly because it barely fits in the old lunch box I keep it in. Which happens to be one of the coolest lunchboxes ever.

I also did. I still have a big bag of them. Now I have so many keys I prefer not to have a chain.

You know what I like doing with extra old keys?
Often people have a set sitting at home on a table, or hanging on a hook. I'll add one and wonder when they.
Will figure out it's on there
Will try to figure out what it's for.
Ask their spouse if they put it on there.
Repeat the wondering, asking, and head scratching.

My best one (which I still don't know how it turned out)...
My sister was letting a friend stay with them for a few weeks while they were house hunting. The guest had a set of house keys, and I added one to that ring when I was over there once.
I'm sure the guest didn't notice, but I can't help but wonder how the conversation went when my sister realized they returned the ring with an extra key on it.
Did you need this key?
What key?
The key on our house ring you were using.
We don't need your keys anymore.
I know, but did you need this key?
Were we supposed to keep them?
No, but there is an extra key.
Extra key to what?
I don't know.
We don't know either, they're your keys.
But there is an extra key.
What extra key?

I do that with some of the keys I find metal detecting. Suddenly a rusty safe key appears on your key ring, and even the most skeptical people are driven to supernatural assumptions.

You can also leave a set at someone's house (on a counter, or end table) during a large party, and wait for the "Did someone leave a set of keys?" email to go out to the whole guest list.
I get an extra giggle if there is a photo attached.

They haven't spoken to each other since.

I collected key chains as a child, too. I don't anymore. That diving helmet is way cool!

I collected and still collecting car keys, I just love having them, (I'm ashamed to say this but, sometimes I play with them). I remember once a friend of my father gave me a volvo key just like the one in the picture above, I loved playing with it but I lost it, so I'm still looking for one of those.
